| Not so long ago, people left the farm in droves and flocked to cities for work as unskilled laborers. Later, folks traded congested urban areas and higher crime rates for the relatively peaceful suburbs. Today, more and more people are leaving behind expensive, overcrowded suburbs—not to mention long commutes and lackluster sprawl—to live, work, play and prosper in small town America. Nearly 20 million people have already made the move to smaller cities and rural counties. Futurists predict the trend will continue for several more decades. And people aren’t the only ones moving to small towns. Business leaders know that small town America is today’s land of opportunity.
With a population exceeding 36,000 within a 30-minute drive of the city—and 115,000 in the labor shed area—North Platte and Lincoln County constitute a community on the verge of big things. We welcome those businesses and individuals joining the next migration.
