The Development Corporation of North Platte is governed by a 17 member board of directors, fifteen of whose members are elected by the membership and the other two are elected, one each, from the City Council and the County Board of Commissioners. As a member of the Board of Directors, members oversee all policy-making functions of the organization and help to establish the long range goals. Board members are elected on a revolving basis with five up for election or re-election each year. Terms are three years and no board member may serve more than two consecutive terms.
THE NOMINATION PROCESS
Annually, the president appoints members to the DEVCO Nominating Committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and recommending to the board, and to the membership, a slate of eligible candidates to fill open positions on the board of directors. At time there may be more eligible candidates than open positions. Board officers are nominated and elected by the current board of directors through a separate nomination process.
Applications for director positions are solicited through an open call to all DEVCO members in good standing. The nominating committee assesses candidates through the review of written applications and interviews conducted in person.
Following the assessment process, the committee selects the final candidates to be recommended as the proposed slate of directors for the coming board year. The director slate is forwarded to the (seated) Board of Directors for ratification; following board approval, the slate is recommended to the membership for election.
All applicants are subject to this process. No exceptions or preference is given to any individual with regard to prior service, affiliation, or relation. As described above, all qualified candidates will be interviewed by the nominating committee. Interviews will be conducted during the first two weeks of August.
